Quickfire FAQs
What is Wide Format Printing used for?
Wide format printing refers to printing on larger rolls of material, used for items like banners, posters, signs, vehicle wraps, wallpapers, exhibition graphics, and other oversized visual displays.
What is Direct to Film (DTF) printing and UV Direct to Film (UV DTF)?
Direct to Film (DTF): A process where a design is printed onto a special film, then a powdered adhesive is applied and heat-cured. This film is then transferred to a garment or other substrate using a heat press. Great for t-shirts, hoodies, and soft materials, offering vibrant colours and durability.
UV Direct to Film (UV DTF): Similar to DTF but uses UV-curable inks and is designed for hard, flat surfaces like metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, and wood. It creates a robust, scratch-resistant, and vibrant transfer with a slightly raised, tactile finish.
What is Screen Printing best suited for?
Screen printing is a classic method ideal for high-volume apparel printing (t-shirts, hoodies, bags), promotional items, and signage. It's known for its vibrant colours, durability, and ability to print on various materials, especially when specific spot colours (like Pantone) are required for branding consistency.
What are your artwork requirements for a high-resolution print?
We typically require print-ready PDF files with a resolution of 300dpi (dots per inch) at the final print size. This ensures sharp, clear images and text, preventing pixelation. All fonts should be outlined, and images embedded.
What is "bleed" and why do I need it? How much do I need?
Bleed is the area of your design that extends beyond the trim edge of your finished printed piece. It's essential to prevent a thin, unprinted white line from appearing at the edge of your design if there's any slight shift during the cutting process. We generally require 3mm of bleed on all sides.
What are printers marks/crop marks and do I need them?
Printers marks (or crop marks) are lines printed on the corners of your artwork to indicate where the printed piece should be trimmed. They help our production team cut your job precisely to size. While many professional design programs automatically add these, if you're unsure, our design team can often add them for you.
Which software is best for print design: InDesign, Illustrator, or Canva?
Adobe InDesign: Ideal for multi-page documents like brochures, books, and magazines, offering powerful layout and text handling.
Adobe Illustrator: Best for vector graphics, logos, illustrations, and single-page designs where precision and scalability are key.
Canva: Excellent for quick, simple designs and social media graphics. While it has improved, it can be less suitable for complex print jobs, critical colour matching, or designs requiring specific print-ready features like custom bleed settings or advanced font embedding. For professional, high-quality print, InDesign or Illustrator are generally preferred.

What's the difference between Lithographic (Litho) and Digital Printing? When should I choose each?
Lithographic Printing (Offset): Uses plates to transfer ink onto paper. Excellent for large print runs (typically 500+ items) where cost-per-unit drops significantly, offering superior colour consistency and a wider range of paper stocks and special finishes.
Digital Printing: Prints directly from a digital file without plates. Ideal for smaller print runs, variable data printing (personalisation), and quick turnarounds. It's more cost-effective for quantities below 500.
